Liberals do not cheer the deaths of US troops. Indeed, it was liberals like myself who tried to protect our troops from being sent into a dangerous situation without an overriding national security priority.

I marched with a contigent of veterans of against this war. We were peacetime vets, a couple of WW2 vets, Vietnam vets, Korean War vets, and even Gulf War veterans. One WW2 vet was there in a wheelchair to exercise his rights to speak up against the government's drumbeat to war.

We didn't march because we supported Saddam or because we thought Saddam was a good guy. We marched because we were the one's paying attention. We were the one's that saw that the inspectors were coming up completely empty handed. We were the one's that heard UN inspectors tell the world the intelligence provided to them by the US was "garbage after garbage after garbage". We were the ones who watch as our secretary of State laid out a case for war before UN using information plagarized from a high school term paper that was almost a decade old. We were the one's who heard the inspectors begging for more time before taking irrevocable action. We were the one's who saw that the US could not even get a moral majority of approval from the security for permission to take military action.

And what was the rush anyway? Saddam wasn't going anywhere? He had been contained for over a decade and hadn't done anything to us.

What was the damn rush? Was Bush afraid that more time might actually lead the UN to conclude what we all know to be the truth now: That Saddam actually had disarmed sometime during the 90's and that they really posed no threat to us?

And you called us anti-American. You called us traitors. You harrassed us for exercising our rights to be heard. Our president called us a "focus group", the largest protest in the history of the human race, a focus group.

Meanwhile, the conservatives, nearly beside themselves with glee at the prospect of this war waved their flags and cheered on the President.

And you have the audacity to claim LIBERALS are cheering the deaths of our troops when we did everything we could to prevent this while you were busy holding PRO-WAR rallies?

How dare you? Have you no shame, even now when the blood of 10000 Iraqi civilians and 620 American soldiers stains your hands? Have you at last not even the decency to say, "I wish I would have listened"?
