Four More Years of This ?
War on terror: What war? Bin Laden is all but forgotten.
We aren't lifting a figure to help Russia deal with a
tragedy as horrible as 9/11. Afghanistan is about as
liberated as it was under Soviet domination. We control
the cities and war lords control the poppie fields.
War in Iraq: 1000 men and women gone, 150,000 still
on station. We have no idea how to contain the
pressure cooker we uncapped. Bush himself claims to
have 'miscalculated' the Iraqi people. And no exit plan
from either party.
War in Iran: Draft Presidential orders to topple the Iranian
government waiting for signature.
Economy: 140,000 jobs last month, but in 2002 the tax
cut was promised to deliver 200,000. August was the
first month in a couple quarters that the number was
even close to the 150,000 needed to break even.
Growth is sluggish at best. The markets ditto. 1.5M
dropped below the poverty line last year.
Education: No child left behind has been left behind.
Lots of new standardized tests, but teachers still underpaid,
schools go without repair in many areas, because
demands from the central government for Homeland
security have taken many if not most states to the point
of bankruptcy.
Homeland Security: We are at level yellow. We have
been at yellow since 2001. Except for the half dozen
times we have been at orange. NYC has been at
orange except when it was at red. No meaningful
plan to get us to blue or green.
